A Guide to Caring for Mirror and LED Costumes

As an ETEREshop team founded by former circus performers who spent years on stage, we understand that performance requires a costume that is not only spectacular but also durable and easy to maintain. For performers, a clean, fresh costume before every show is vital. This deep understanding of stage life is why we design all our mirror and LED garments with simplicity of care as a core principle. We strive to ensure your investment stays in its initial condition for as long as possible.

I. Keeping it Fresh: Washing and Hygiene

Performance environments, especially the stage, are intense, and actors sweat heavily. This is why we prioritize washability over relying solely on dry cleaning.

  • Rinsing the Mirror Shell: For our tight-fitting, full-body mirror costumes we have engineered them to be easily washed. You can simply rinse the suit in mild soapy water. This is super important for the working artist, as it allows the costume to be quickly refreshed, dried and ready for the next performance.
  • Detachable Linings: To ensure hygiene and comfort, many of our basic mirror suits, such as the Mirror Man and Mirror Lady outfits, feature a removable internal lining. This internal element can be easily unfastened and washed separately. We apply the same principle to our LED products; for instance, the linings of our LED jackets are also removable and washable.

II. Essential Rules for Drying and Storage

Maintaining the electronics and the adhesive structure requires careful handling after cleaning.

  • Post-Wash Drying: If you wash an LED product, you must ensure the costume is completely dry before reconnecting any power source. Check all connectors and ports to confirm there is absolutely no residual water to prevent short-circuiting.
  • Storage Environment: The Golden Rule
    • NEVER dry or store the costume under direct sunlight. The heat can melt the adhesive that secures the mirror elements, and the intense UV rays can cause components to fade or burn out.
    • NEVER leave the costume in freezing, sub-zero temperatures. Many elements in the costume structure are sensitive and will not withstand prolonged cold exposure.
    • ALWAYS store the item in a dry and warm place to preserve its quality and structural integrity.

Cleaning Mirrors

  • Always use gloves to avoid fingerprints.
  • Use a non-alcoholic glass cleaner.
  • Apply cleaner to a soft cloth, not directly on the mirror.
  • Avoid abrasive materials like rough cloths or brushes.
  • Never use solvents or harsh chemicals – they can damage the mirror surface.

III. Electronic and Battery Safety

Our illuminated costumes are complex pieces of technology, and safety must come first.

  • Battery Specification: For all our LED products, you must use only the batteries specified in the instruction manual. Using alternative batteries or installing them incorrectly can lead to a short circuit, which poses a risk to the performer and the product itself. Stick strictly to the manual.
  • No Unauthorized Modifications: Regarding the electronics, we strictly forbid cutting or modifying any component yourself without prior written consent from us. If you experience an issue, the correct procedure is to contact our support team immediately. If necessary, you can send the costume back to us, and we will rework or repair it.
  • Customer Support: If you have any questions concerning your costume’s operation or care, you can always write to our support team and receive a prompt response.

IV. Handling Our Mirror Products

Our mirrored pieces, such as the Gold Mirror Stilt Walker or a custom Silver Mirror Costume, are designed to be robust enough for dynamic stage work, yet they require the same level of care as any delicate prop.

  • General Care: Treat your costume with care: do not pull, tear or strike the material. While we design our pieces to withstand various on-stage acrobatic tricks, you must remember that all materials have a defined operational lifespan.
  • Protecting the Finish: To prevent irreversible damage to the mirror finish, you must wear our mirror costumes carefully. Avoid rubbing the mirrors against walls or floors, as this can easily scratch and damage the reflective surface.

By adhering to these simple care instructions, you ensure that our mirror and LED costumes will continue to deliver unforgettable performances and maintain their brilliant appearance show after show.
